Early voting for the August 18 primary election starts this Saturday, August 8 in Leon County. In anticipation, the county has been ramping up its entire elections mechanism. That mechanism includes meetings of the election canvassing board. Made up of local elected officials, its job is to oversee and certify every aspect of the voting process. The board was reviewing the vote-by-mail ballots received thus far on Monday. On Tuesday, it will supervise the scanning of accepted mail ballots into the audit system. Board member and County Commissioner Bryan Welch told WFSU the whole idea is to make sure every election process works as it should. At the same time, it assures transparency since every canvassing board activity is open to the public.
